World Of Warcraft Mage Guide

Mages are a popular class in World of Warcraft. If you prefer to use skills and spells rather than melee fighting then the Mage is the perfect class to choose. Their main strengths lie in magic and distance fighting, utilising an arsenal of formidable offensive spells. Mages are not physically strong - using mind power more than sheer brutal strength. Their amor is limited to cloth making them more vulnerable at close range attacks. With this in mind, a Mage definitely has to concentrate more to enhance defensive spells since protection skills are more or less obsolete.

Like the Shaman class, you will mainly be shadow attackers, fighting from a distance. Early levels will see a big disadvantage in being a Mage. The lack of good armor, weak offensive spells make it easy for you to get killed in early stages. Don’t be put off by this though, as the Mage will gradually become a force to be reckoned with in higher levels.

The first few levels your only weapons will be wand and some staves so learn this skill.

There are three main types of spells used by a mage: Fire, Frost and Arcane.

            • Fire spells work effectively against enemies as they work particularly well from a distance.
      • Frost spells work better for freezing an enemy up close.
      • Arcane spells suit the more mundane situations, like travelling, healing and crowd control or bluffing other players

There's no surprise that Fire spells works more effectively against enemies. They work a charm in blasting your enemies from a distance, especially if you can get first attack. For enemies in close proximity, use the Frost spell. The ice blast can render them frozen in matter of moments, whilst use of the Arcane spell can work well with more passive tasks, such as healing and travelling.

Another great spell is sustenance. As the spell name suggests, it's great to be out on a grand adventure to not have to worry about food or water. Groups will definitely thank and love you for that. Food and water is vital for regeneration so you will have an important role in supplying the demand. However, remember to only summon food as and when required. If you choose to exit the game, you will not be able to store or retrieve any unused food.

The talents of the mage centre around the three spell groups mentioned above. Use a talent calculator to determine which set of talents are best suited to your particular needs and playing style. These can vary greatly and can make quite a difference when it comes to how well you play the game.

Polymorph

Polymorph spell is incredibly effective in stunning enemies! Keep in mind when using the Polymorph spell as while they are stunned, their HP is being regenerated. You have to be quick to finish them off less you find the tables turned against you. This spell works more effectively on humanoids and beasts.

When used properly these spells provide an incredible force and can easily stop an enemy. You should remember to keep your distance, and apply any defensive spells on your character. Also bear in mind that as you use spells, your mana and health will gradually deplete so you should learn to ration these two effectively.

Picking a profession:

The top 3 professions are enchanting, herbalism and alchemy. You will find that these are the most recommended professions for a Mage. If you want, feel free to have a bit of fun by doing the cooking or fishing professions. A good secondary profession to have is Tailoring since you will need to make cloth armor.

Weapons

Better weapons such as daggers and a one handed sword can be earned as progression is made through the levels. Take advantage of these as they will come in useful when there is no time to cast a spell if you suddenly find yourself ambushed.

Mage's ability to polymorph together with being able to summon food and drink and their skill for crowd control really come into play at this stage and all groups need at least one mage in order to succeed.

The secret to winning with a mage is to work within its limitations and focus on its strengths. Concentrate on learning spells and skills that suit the class and worry about money making professions later in the game.

These attributes make the mage a vital player in the endgame. The high level Mage is undeniably one of the more superior classes in WoW. Their spells can afflict incredible damage in a short space of time, and whilst they may appear weak at low levels, it is certainly worth the investment to level them up to see their awesome power.
